For example, as of March 2021 any violation of the short-term rental ordinance for an illegal short term rental in Honolulu, Hawaii is punishable by an initial fine of $1,000 and a fine of $5,000 per day for each day violation persists…which escalates to $10,000 per day for each day the violation persists for recurring violators.

In California I serve the tenant a 3 day notice to pay the rent or quit, the notice must include the exact amount of the unpaid rent; after 3 days I can choose to file an unlawful detainer and eventually get them evicted.
