Despite the fact that the Austin City Council passed in 2012 what many around the country consider to be model legislation on STRs (which allows the city plenty of leeway to enforce code violations and address problem properties), council is currently considering passing legislation that would effectively ban Type 2 STRs in Austin.

@Tyler Labelle - As others have mentioned I'd start looking for an attorney if you don't already have one - on the first occurrence as a policy I give folks until the 7th either explain & work out an approved payment plan (including late fees) or pay in full (including late fees), after that I let legal council handle it.

The new STR rules that were just implemented are even more restrictive than the previous rules.There is currently an ordinance pending before the Council which would sunset all existing RSTR permits on August 31, 2023.
