I have a serious concern about this policy due to the nature of short term rentals and having various guests that may have allergic reactions.

(whatever you want to refer to it as), I had a similar result...and my initial reaction was "I wasted my money". 

That was my reaction as well.

Don't try to fight it as immediate reaction, try to UNDERSTAND it.

I know their reaction is not going to be good.  

It will be a miserable existence if the lack of "there, there" posts or the lack of a refund from HD over a sample encourages the OP to try to organize a paint boycott or denigrate the people on this site, petty reactions if I've ever seen any.
