A Nest warning alert in the winter costed the landlord $125 to trouble shoot finding out the battery was low.  

Called the service help line and was told to read the troubleshooting manual " duh".

I am going to trouble shoot a couple things over the weekend to see if I can determine the problem. 

The customer support was able to help, but unfortunately, I learned very quickly that the T-mobile chip set that came with the base station was not reliable... so while the alarm system tested and was working OK... the signal was not good, so that it would go in and out, and essentially be useless.After a few days of screwing around, and troubleshooting every other possibility, Simplisafe decided to send me Verizon chip set.  

A typical PM will just dispatch a service person without even trouble shooting.

I work in tech, so I've done all the basic troubleshooting such as logging in and out of the app, reinstalling the app, yet nothing has worked to pull in the data to the mobile version. 

I called in and the support guy was basically like "yeah I don't really know, I'm not like in the backend or anything I can just see the same stuff as you, so not really any way to troubleshoot it, good luck though!".

Through the method you are asking  advice on, is a little far beyond me my experience And level of investing.( I have not purchased a single property but I am acquiring financing. )My advice is if you are going to proceed 1- know your market2- know clear exit strategies 3-  be clear how will you trouble shoot in the event, money is required to start paying expenses such as holding costs.
