For a fool proof system, you should have a camera in the NVR room, and the NVR should upload motion-sensed recordings to location off site.If you've never used a video surveillance system before, keep in mind that most low-end systems have cameras with built in LEDs (some that you can't turn off) for night time recording.

It is usually fairly small, but I have a property which was severely damaged ($100k+ in repairs) because the homeowner ignore the foundation.You could put in some kind of automatic watering system, but nothing is foolproof, especially if the person living in the property decides they want to shut it off since it would go on their water bill.

It's not a foolproof system, the I do a pretty good job of figuring out if they have one on the tax assessor's site.

It will mask the true ownership of the home, not a foolproof strategy but may discourage a lawsuit and/or make it harder/more expensive for someone to pursue.
