Not to mention the beaches and pace of life in northern Uruguay is amazing...think beaches, camp fire, gauchos, surfing, and steak and wine daily.I'm heading to Belize in a week for vacation, excited to get a better feel on the ground.

For this reason, I don't see there being a good pool of tenants or a ton of demand considering the economy is so slow and people who spend time and $ there typically have vacation homes there.The fires certainly have not helped, and I know they have had moratoriums for Home insurance in the region.That being said, for a place to purchase acreage, it still is relatively cheap compared to that of other wine country atmospheres and can have all the same charm.

If the work is really shoddy, it may be best to tear it down.I've had properties with un-permitted work that have sold at or above market, especially if the un-permitted work was unique, added real value to the home, and wouldn't be approved otherwise (un-permitted space converted into a cool loft or wine room for example).

Below is a pic for reference and if you're just starting out you should punt on these.Going back to the original question, if you do have issues with an older brick building, a lot of times running the steel I-beam across the basement in place of the old wooden one which has bent over time, gets the job done to minimize sagging on the first floor and sound-up the foundation.
