In theory,  your total equity inside of any 1 LLC is exposed to a lawsuit that originates from inside of that LLC.

@Matthew Truncale, I would recommend looking into house hacking a small multi (2-4 units) using an FHA loan for 3.5% down, house hacking a single family home with an in-law suite using 5% down conventional, or looking into a 203k loan and building equity in a property that way.

A lot of landlords are advised to put their properties in the name of an LLC for asset protection.While this is basically true, the reality isn’t what most landlords think.If a legal issue occurs with your property resulting in a lawsuit, there’s a decent chance the plaintiff’s attorney will be successful in “piercing the corporate veil” of your LLC and being able to sue you directly.

If it's the latter, in the mid 90's there were a gazillion homes that used wood product siding that was problematic to the point that there were class action lawsuits concerning it and many homes were resided under conditions of the settlement.
