Nick,If you are going to be in Wyoming for awhile, what I would recommend is buying a 2-4 unit place you can live in while you are recruiting with your VA loan, put some sweat equity in it with new paint, landscaping, etc and either sell when you PCS to Savannah.

The flip is pretty minor, list of what is needed is: paint, floors, carpet, vanities in 2 bathrooms, replace counter tops with granite, appliance package, replace all ceiling fans, lights and fixtures, replace all outlets.

For example if I'm doing a gut rehab and I'm taking measurements for a bedroom I would like to know how much insulation, sheetrock, joint compound, trim, baseboard, paint, etc I should buy.
