My contractor built a wood stairway entrance to the top unit and I'm concerned my tenant will be trapped if there is a fire. can I put metal stairs near a window as an emergency fire escape?

If you stairways aren't up to current code (width and pitch) they'd have to be rebuilt.

HI ALL. my tenant has pieces of broken furniture in the back stairway for a few month, my question is first if all is it a fire hazard?

There’s 1 large 8’ wide stairway on each end of the building making for easy access down there. 

The ground floor is not elevated so the basement will be completely underground with window wells and an outdoor stairway for egress. 

There is a shared parking lot and common stairway and signage.

The inside is unfinished..not even a stairway to the brand new second level.

Considerations need to be made for possible additional stairways, elevator for ADA compliance and sprinklers.

I evicted all tenants in the basement prior to closing, now I am thinking of opening that stair way to the basement (a room that was used as an apt that has a separate entrance) and advertising it as added living space to the two bedroom apartment.

A little tight around the stairway corners to get a box spring up there but a teen would definitely put a mattress up there.3 windows and a sky light.
