It's a 5 hour one way trip but I hope it will be a long term relationship. so makes sense to make the trip and yes, verify that the property actually exists.  

One thing we have noted as troublesome for some potential househackers with this conventional program is that in order to use rental income from the other units towards qualifying you need to have some current housing expense verified (rent, a mortgage, etc.) 

It seems impossible to not let them know your identity.

I was thinking the same, as long as I can verify it's a reputable company and stating that the stove will remain when they vacate the property. 

@Christopher Davis my property manager does an inspection about 30 days before lease end, verifies timeline with current tenant and potential turnover issues.

I was tempted to allow it at their cost as long as I could verify and approve the company doing the work.

I've found luck obtaining information/licensing requirements first on the county's website under zoning, and then reaching out to the specific town/city and verifying any further requirements they may have over the county's.
