It's hard to buy and hold in SF unless you: have a sizable down payment, can ferret out a good off market deal, or can find a clever value added play that will increase the income after development.But other than that yeah, only an idiot would invest in San Francisco ;)

If it has snow you will have snow removal etc. also you will have costs for replacement linens, pillows etc.There are a lot of ancillary costs for short term rentals that need to be considered

She does the linens and towels in addition to cleaning the condo and our lanai.  

Hello everyone, So I am new with REI I recently took a class threw clever investor.

But as @Jerrod weaver pointed out one has to be clever.

(I'm curious, how was the owner "clever" enough to borrow more than their home is now worth?

Also any purchases such as furniture, kitchen supplies, linens etc.

And yes- cleaners typically wash linens off site, so you need at least one spare set that they can change right away. 

It was about being clever about the situation and solving problems and most would not do to their binary thinking.
