Do you want to pay $99 for someone to come out and look at the broken 5 year old dishwasher (a repair) or do you just say replace it (a capital expense) and have Home Depot truck out a new one?

Can you just stick them in a dish washer or will it tear them apart?

If there is a dishwasher or clothes washer, those should be disconnected - they freeze very easily, and they don't make it easy to just get the water out.

I had to have new wiring run for an electric range and an over the range microwave and needed a plumbing connection for a dishwasher.

However, as Dawn A. said, it there is a good track record AND you want to keep the customer, then removing the penalty can enhance loyalty and improve your overall cash flow.
