Range vents

Im preatty new to REI. I just bought my 1st property last week. One of the things Ive noticed in my renting years and many of the rental properties ive visited is most if not all have inadequate or nonexistent range ventilation. If they do have a range hood, it vents back into the room mitigating its usefulness. I know its a money thing but I have to think about the safety factor as well. Do I hate my money or is this a legitimate concern?
