I work at Yale, so I've been able to build a fairly steady stream of renters in New Haven from the professional schools (Medicine, Law) grad schools (Management, Drama, Divinty) and hospitals related to the University. 

The San Mateo, CA area has always had a lot of growth with companies like Visa (I hear they are planning to go public), Fisher Investments, Templeton Investments and Gilead Sciences (a biotech company that has licensed some AIDS medicines) situated in this area.

So, should I take the usual route and go to college and study business, or accounting, or medicine, or something else I don't really care about in order to get a moderate-paying job, go out to the suburbs and get a cute little house and get a 9 to 5 job doing crap I don't care about, then come home and watch tv and go to sleep, then wake up the next morning and do it all over again?

I live near the VA-School of Medicine campus and my mailman tells me there are a lot FSBOs within 5 miles of me - his brothers are mortgage brokers.

The attorney practices law, the doctor practices medicine, I'd rather have either that didn't need to practice anymore, especially on me!

I do devote most of my time to learning about medicine, but that will only get me so far with my personal goals. 

I'm planning to move to Pittsburgh from Minneapolis over summer before beginning Dental School at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. 

If you need higher levels of technical training for a technical career it is different (sciences, engineering, medicine, etc.).I have a question for you: if you get a somewhat more difficult, but more applicable to RE degree (finance, law, accounting, etc.) - would that degree help you more than spending the additional time it requires on RE-specific activities?
