No major furniture just suggestions of furniture placement and some wall decor. 

Then I scraped the older steam furnance... 150$... then a couple of chairs here and there for the patio... 50$, Limestone for decorating the outside 100$.

I will tell you though, that you get by far the best tenants when your interiors are nicely decorated.

We were fortunate that my mother owns a boutique store in town that sells home furnishings and furniture, and she's great at decorating so we got all this staged for the time of moving it and a kiss on the cheek.

Having their own bedroom, cable/wifi, extra living space, front porch, and working man related décor is a bonus.

I've found that potential guests are very picky in crowded markets, and the nicer the property the better it does (although you can make an average property look awesome with the right decor and furnishings). 

In the homes we have with fireplaces we specify they are non-functional and for decoration only.

My wife loves to listen to my day in real estate but is not active in it and loves decorating for the seasons etc.When you talk to the significant other where you might see OPPORTUNITY they might see RISK and unknowns.

I realize the wood may not have gone well with the new decor but the wood matched the rest of the house-I have that same dilemma in our primary home. 

A couple of things to add: I've spent a lot of time & effort putting in decorative beds that are about as low-maintenance as possible.
