The forms are not required by statute but are typically required by brokerages by policy.Small estates may avoid the formal probate administration but still require court filing if real property (as opposed to a mobile home, cash or stocks).

I have always made sure that the utility has my contact info and I let them know its a rental but I have never asked about a formal process.
