I recommend having a diverse portfolio!

I'm not sure where you are and if Chicago is close for you to benefit from it's diversity and population growth.  

Wilmington on the other hand has more of a diverse economy and does not rely solely on the military.

Having met my future wife and then moving to the Bronx, from Wilton CT, it was a bit of culture shock for me at first, but that was 20 years ago.  

Atleast from what I've heard it has a stable and diverse job market and doesn't see the vast ups and down of equity that some spots are frequently hit with, for example my local market.

They have a diverse group; doing little bit of everything, great place to network.  

I'm in a somewhat similar situation; not that my husband's not interested, he thinks he can't do any of the research/buying since he's not a native English speaker nor familiar with this aspect of the culture (never mind that my whole post-college life has been spent outside the USA, so I'm quite clueless about many things).

The range of available rentals is truly diverse here. 

From business friendly laws and taxing structures to the huge diversity of housing stock and lots of vendors, Dallas is a great place to invest. 

Securities are safest when they are 1:diverse and 2: held long term.
