Where it gets tough, especially if you aren't working full time, is that banks don't give you much credit for rental income, which makes your debt to income ratio look undesirable, at least in their eyes.

You might even find a cashflow positive place near Fruitvale / Coliseum, but you're getting into high crime territory there and are really waiting for gentrification to push the undesirable element out of the area.

(Texas is not an open records state...apparently so wealthier individuals with unusual custom homes can argue for lower property taxes...to add to their oversized mortgage interest deductions at tax time...to maximise tax write offs) SO taxes on this property will be right around 5k at 2.5%, which may actually be low as the area is a MUD.
