Hi, my wife (we live in Upstate NY) and I are planning to purchase a STR this year with the plan to rent it for most of the year, and vacation 1-2 weeks there ourselves.  

You are far better off buying a stand-alone vacation rental and paying for a hotel room when you need it.  

My long term goal is to have a beach vacation home that functions as a STR that we stay in when we want, hopefuly 1031 exchanging into that.I also have started 2 real estate investing networking groups, and a monthly meetup.

The Code enforcement of the City sent a letter to say the tenant needs to vacate and the owner must reimburse for relocation fees in the amount of 2 months rent and the deposit.

@Nathan M kieferI already get most of my bookings from Vrbo because I have true vacation rentals and not an "Airbnb" type property.So this will just make it less likely that I get many bookings from Airbnb, and I'm ok with that.

I plan on fixing the punch list items once the tenant vacates, so that the home will pass the Section 8 inspection.

As a contingency of sale we required this unit to be vacated.
