@Ebony King I am doing the same strategy with vacant lots in subdivisions... so thanks for sharing your strategy and questions. can you share how you are marketing your lots for sale — or do you have readily available buyers lined up. and are you coming across external liens on the lots/land? 

They may also disagree on what to do with the property and any external pressure would just feel like piling on. 

- This would be changing a single-family into a duplex or changing a duplex into a quad, so most likely the stairs would be external.

Just my opinion RR Ralph-Great point, yes, rent loss is a big one in my book, but this is going to happen I think this is more of an external factor or by-product of rentals, you cannot always control the renewal, it is super important to try to secure a renewal and mitigate this loss as best possible and as often as possible.
