I have made that a goal for myself and find that I am able to make connections at a faster rate when I am active in the forums: people notice and might feel like I am 'here to stay' when they see I didn't introduce myself and then disappear off the site.

@Jared M Pilarski I really encourage you to go to the meetup: if you make a goal of introducing yourself to ten people there, you have a good chance of making a connection with someone who can help you along.One other tip, and this is something I have been working on as well, is GET ACTIVE in the forums!
