Could you then maybe install a cheaper or even used ventless natural gas fireplace in each unit?

The higher rent potential in the vacant unit is because it has been completely redone with new kitchen everything including cabinets and Stainless Steel appliances, faux fireplace, and beautiful trim.

For example we put some simple things on fireplace mantles, kitchen counters, etc.I was concerned about selling during the Holidays, but found it to be no trouble at all this year.Jim

The other four have shared wall of kitchen (non-plumbing wall) and living room with fireplace.

I have no idea how much a fireplace is worth, brick as opposed to siding, 1 car garage vs. 2 car garage, etc.

The custom home has the high quality carpet, soft close Amish made amazing cabinets, 18' ceilings wiht an 18' fire place, etc...the contractor house has contractor grade carpet, the cheapest kind of cabinet you can find with no molding, etc...  

I want to paint the tile white and leave it alone but that doesn't help me with the fireplace flue that is still sticking out of the wall.
