I've never heard of a hard money lender going after anything other than the property in the event of a default and since it's a business endeavor I don't see it affecting your personal credit, but you might want to ask around and get more opinions to ensure that's the case.

(Granted, on your first rental, the idea that you might only have returned $2,000 in profit after a year is hard to swallow but as you accumulate more rentals, and the rents rise, it becomes easier especially when you factor in the appreciation.)Just my 2-cents worth.Good luck in your investment endeavors!
