I have endeavored to strike the balance between solid growth and capital preservation, so it's a lot of pressure to not screw up, and none of us has a crystal ball.

Keep saving and building until you have a clearer idea of what you want to invest in exactly as far as real estate is concerned (something that @Brandon Turner calls "crystal clear criteria").
