I would think that with a mentor as with any apprenticeship you get much more tailored instruction, to your stengths and current knowlegdge.

Offer to help them as an unpaid internship or apprenticeship.  

I believe (for Missouri appraisers at least) you start with an apprenticeship, and have more of a 9-5 lifestyle.

I'm doing a apprenticeship in plumbing in Missoula Montana and have about 2 years left and don't want to move away before I get my license.

So my question is should we buy a super cheap property and learn how to rehab as we go or should we do an apprenticeship and get a formal education for it?

Shortly thereafter, I dropped out and have been working towards an apprenticeship in the highest paying job I could find, overhead power lineman (after 5 years most guys make $130k).

I fixed it up, lived in/rented it for a year and sold for $110k.With the proceeds, paid off an apprenticeship student loan, a quad loan, AND bought an Up/Down duplex for $235k, AGAIN, 5% down with Genworth Mtg.

Went through a plumbing apprenticeship.

Perhaps there's an apprenticeship program out there you could look into?
