I use Georgia pacific densheield backer...easaypeasy...for shower and countertop and with the bullnose you can get a very nice countertop for cheap...2$ foot plus sink.I always use a listelle, sometimes just cut a larger sheet if mosaic tile into strips.

If most of the neighborhood has Vinal floors and Formica countertops, and you put in travertine floors with granite counters, you won't get "credit" for the work above and beyond the neighborhood.

There are a few rotten logs,  the windows have PL glue in the corners,  the kitchen cabinets and counter tops are just set in place,  carpeting on walls in bedrooms,  piece of plywood for a ceilingin an upstairs room.

There are wood floors in the bedroom and living room that I will be refinishing.This unit is rented close to the top of the rent range, although not as high as some due to its location on the edge of a desirable neighborhood and some outdated (although in good condition) finishes such as cabinets and countertops, laminate kitchen floor.

If buyers want granite, hardwood floors and expensive imported Italian tile, you can't expect to get away with composite counter tops and vinyl flooring.Personally I would be much more concerned about the later if I was in a very small  market or a far away market.
