Welcome @Jake Baxter.If a bank owned the house then you should probably see it on the assessor card and if it was foreclosed on those records are public.I would definitely encourage talking to the neighbors, mail carrier, etc. to find out more information (they usually know the most).Hopefully this deal works out, but don't get stuck or emotionally invested in it - keep doing research on it, but also keep looking and making offers on a lot of other homes.Please keep us posted on your progress.

I have used this technique a couple of times just to show police presence at my property after it was vandalized.I would also suggest calling your insurance carrier at a minimum to see what coverages may apply to you.

@Samantha Robbins If you are going to live in the 3 unit, you will want to bundle it with your auto with Nationwide or a similar personal lines company insurance company.If you are renting it out, there are several other commercial insurance carriers you will want to consider.
