Maybe you’ll want to rent from now until May on a longer term lease, then switch to Airbnb type short term rentals so you can enjoy the cabin personally too.I also look at craigslist roommate / sublet prices to see if I can make more money renting the house furnished, by the room, to working professionals on 6-12+ month leases.

And, finally, I've lost count of the number of resumes I've reviewed where the applicant had a college degree in a subject that bore absolutely no resemblance or had any bearing on what jobs they worked after graduation. 

In these locations, we rent furnished rooms, since most international students are arriving with a suitcase and ambition, this approach has proved to be popular.  

I just furnished a house to rent out and the utilities went way up due to air conditioning costs, etc.

The pros are that since you would own the home 100% you can always relocate it to another area if NB doesn't pan out, and that the area will likely need housing for a while, especially furnished short-term.

We do a bunch of classes on short-term rentals and because of that have a decent network of folks who rent out furnished places.
