Most of my properties are in a corporation and I carry extra insurance as well as an umbrella policy, however if that was penetrated I want my retirement funds to be secure.

I also think limiting your access to financing and not receiving the lowest interest rates possible can hurt you.Get umbrella insurance if you want to be protected.

There is really very little precedence to whether the LLC protects the owner in the event of a lawsuit anyways versus just having increased insurance/umbrella limits in the individuals name.
