Starting a repair company for rental properties?

HI all,

I hope this find you well. I am looking for some insight and feedback. I have recently bought my first duplex, where we will be living to the 2nd story and having a tenant in the 1st story. This is with hope the 1st of many in our journey. The property has been vacant for some time and we have been working on the entire house to bring it back. As the bills add up I can't help but to get the feeling that now would be a good time to being an LLC or similar entity to start managing the repair cost under a business, which would favor me in the long run as we accumulate more properties and grow staff to manage them. Also, with the tools and materials that are needed in the repairs, it seems logical that there is some business expense write off and tax breaks I would be able to workout if these expenses were inside of a business and not out of my personal pocket. The property was not bought under a business name.

Thanks for the insight and feedback. I have been taking classes to grow my knowledge in starting a business and am partially familiar with the different structures, but now I am feeling very compelled to begin to put it into practice. I have some handyman skills that allows me to perform a lot of maintenance tasks as well. I would greatly appreciate some direction and advice.
