If you say "show me your paychecks, W2's", they said their religious order provides for their housing, food clothing, but they don't issue paychecks.

There are exemptions for owner occupied, religious organizations and fraternal type organizations.

Overall - as a young person that does not have a portfolio to diversify, it is my belief that I can really only reasonably make a single investment with my first $20,000.  

I think property markets are largely inefficient because of retail buyers, and this (generally false) belief that 'Your home is an investment.' 

I'm not a religious person at all.

I almost missed out on being an investor because I always thought you needed a massive amount of money piled up to get in to the business . thankfully I awoken from my slumber and began to question my beliefs on money and investing 

I do have a belief that by being a good landlord this will make them comfortable and not want to leave.I just like the human feel of things

I have a belief that you don't sell what you want to buy.  

For stories that are covered worldwide (US presidential elections, the Olympics, etc), you will already sort of know what the story is, which can help you fill in the gaps.If you get any TV channels (satellite or cable) in your target language, watch them with the closed captions turned on.If you are very familiar with any religious writings (like the Bible, Torah, Koran, Bhagavad Gita, or anything else), look up a version of that in the target language.
