There was more bodegas selling cigarettes, lottery tickets and high fructose corn syrup juices than supermarkets with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Now if you have a smoker regardless if the "smoke outside" you have to repaint everything.

If so, why is it different than dog ownership or smokers?

I have looked at several homes lately that are at a pretty good discount, but for good reason...they are laden with cigarette smoke.

If the previous owner was a heavy smoker, the smell *will* come back, regardless of primer or scrubbing.

Heavy mj smokers are usually pretty calm.Also look at the setup of your yard versus theirs any way to rearrange things so it's not so intrusive.

The carpeting/flooring is not ready to be replaced and there is a lingering odor of pets or cigarettes.
