Is Texas a good place to start from for a newbie investor?

I am one of those who comments with distain over all the fake reviews and brand new newbies, flooding the market that he uses for marketing and self promotion purposes.

I would also appreciate if you could shed knowldege on a newbie as to how you determine if a certain market is desireable.

If a new investor comes in with a 300k purchase and a 200k rehab in a high end market where it will take 3 months to sell, a lender will not be so hot to lend a newbie in that situation.

Most newbies have a good experience with a contractor but they want to beat them up over a change order that is totally out of the contractor's control or that the contractor doesn't want them to provide their own crappy materials.
