My take: housing affordability is really bad, and people are #1) priced out of home ownership, #2) pissed off, #3) complain to the politicians.

In the Twin Cities, there has been a big push towards rent control in the major cities and it does feel like politicians here are jumping at the opportunity to villainize landlords if it gets them another term.
