A romantic bubble bath by candlelight burned an acrylic enclosure we had and the the r/r cost was significant!

I'm going to guess that this is some sort of "plastic" tub material, for example acrylic or fiberglass.

(fiberglass, acrylic, etc.)Also, what are your thoughts on having only a shower option in the only bathroom of a rental? 

You can get color matched caulks but most are siliconized acrylic and dont seem to hold up quite as well.

In the age of acrylic and fiberglass tubs, there are a large number of "professional bathroom designers" who either do not know this or make up total BS excuses for why they choose to stiff you for an additional $100-$200 on materials costs for the "cast" versions of these steel tubs (because they're easier and faster for unskilled people to install).Here's an out-of-the-box idea on your shower, invest in a European shower bar mixer system where most of the plumbing is outside the wall.

The inexpensive long-term fix is to smash them out, replace with a fiberglass/acrylic tub that covers the original footprint of the tub (usually you can get away with 60x30, sometimes you will need 60x32), and do a glue-up acrylic surround to cover up the existing tilework.

We put in acrylic counter tops with built in sinks, 2 piece fiberglass shower, no garbage disposal, no W/D, etc etc.

They said they would: 1)take out the old tiles around the shower walls, 2)replace the floor shower tiles which are currently uneven and result in water pooling in the corners, 3) and replace the damp drywall behind the tiles on the walls, waterproofing it, and treating any mold before reinstalling high quality acrylic tile boards instead of tilingWe would like them to also add an exhaust to the bathroom that will vent out to the roof but they said they can't do that since they are not licensed in that area.
