I like to use an accordion file and file everything alphabetically.

LOL rolodex sits prominently on your desk.. it has these little plastic sleeves you slide the business card in there it protects them from the elements.. then their is tabs so you can put them in alphabetical order then you simply thumb through them.. you can also get the ones that are spring loaded.. now those you have to write the info in.. slide the little button on the side to the letter U want to open up and it pops up and there is your contacts. 

Forget the whole alphabet grading system.  

And all these alphabet soup agencies do more harm than good.
