See, her sister and her husband just recently purchased their second two-family home and we often hear about the stress that they've been going through keeping up with those.

I need to see what she owes but I assume that there is a good amount of equity, and I was thinking to let her move in with her sister like she planned, and then sell go in and fix anything that needs to be fixed and then sell it.

I also see many more people who at one time would have retired in Bend or Sisters either having to or opting to retire somewhere like Prineville, which I think is better then La Pine and Madras.  

You might not be able to rent for $1300 in your area (actually you can - my sister lives nearby is how I know), but that doesn't really matter if you can buy a house for $50k that rents for $1000.
