Lastly, it’s not usually in your benefit to let anyone know you own the property, if you act as a humble employee, just trying to keep your job and have everyone like you, no one will try to get over on you.

I'm not exactly excited for my funds to be tied up for a year while the house is being built but I could borrow against myself (TSP - government employee) or sell some stock/use some of my cash ~$130k.

Before purchasing, I would make sure to figure out your area's vacancy rate and figure out what the largest corporations are that offer housing to their employees are.

If that isn’t an option I would reach out to the regional manager or someone higher up (you can look at the property management company employees on linked in to find out who is in upper management) and give them the option to make things right with you, or inform them that you’ll be taking civil action.
