Morris Invest is not what I would consider a true turnkey company even if they were operating as promised (which they are not - just reference the many and extended threads about them here on BP).  

Under that circumstance my personal liability as a homeowner will extend to the in law.

Make sure the crack doesn't extend all the way up through the chimeny into occupied space.

Just factor in fixing the reason the basement flooded (could be easy like clogged gutters or extending the down spouts or maybe the sump pump hasn't worked because the electric is off or it could be expensive like digging around the foundation, parging the walls and then adding a french drain or could be real expensive and have a cracked foundation so you need to know) mold remediation and door replacement (if they're really bad) into the renovation figures.  

I am familiar with rents here.  30 days after auction for closing, with possibility of extending that at seller's option.  10% of auction price due at close of auction. 

As soon as my offer was submitted with seconds left, the auction was extended automatically, and I would be informed later that I had been outbid.

I am thinking about choosing the extended payment for 25 years that would lower our monthly payment by more than half.
