They also tried to replace it with a cheaper Kenmore version, but when I pointed out mine had the steam cleaning function etc, they did agree and did the upgrade to the "equivalent" model.

Can get then from Ferguson or Cal Steam (same thing actually) for decent price, and AO Smith provides excellent service!

Ceiling panels can be replaced quite easily and carpet can be dried out (you have a head start on steam cleaning!). 

I have some that have old steam boilers, but everything I bought, I did cost plus improvements and had the knob and tube wiring taken out, new shingles, etc.

Let's all make lots of money on foreclosures instead of providing a "steam release" for stressed sellers.

The triplex I have under contract technically has separate gas and electric meters for each unit, but in reality, gas is not split since the home is heated by a single steam boiler.

Other than it being hot in the winter (steam heat; radiators on the ceiling) and later realizing how tiny it was (all the apartments in the building was only about 800 square feet) I remember the only problem we ever had was the risk of the toilet overflowing during very, very heavy rain storms (dad built some type of wooden contraption to place in the toilet during heavy summer rains to push pressure on the water). 

I fear you may be steam rolling over her and not even know it.
