However I thought this post seemed pretty realistic.Usually these self promoting posts get a hearty round of praise from the complete newbs, and are completely  ignored by anyone actually knowledgeable.

Even though you are canadian, you can take legal action against all companies involved including the marketing promoter. you should be able to recover some funds at least.

I have found most of the "free and clear" lists getting promoted are either free&clear AND high equity. 

No one is getting fired over this and no one is getting a promotion over this.
