I just started providing welcome baskets which work well for my business model: the food to refill it is about $7, they can easily be pre-assembled and stored onsite (or with my cleaning lady), and I fill it every 1-3 months for each unit because of the long-term stays.

@Mike Cumbie Nice point taken from the story :)I guess there is no 'right thing' in these situation: that old lady made the best choice she could with the information she had and the background she came from.

Got a few responses, one being a lady who is interested in selling her house but doesn't have a job, and likely would have no idea what to do with a large sum of money if given to her.

We have an partially accepted short sale offer there now - Fingers crossed! 

The trick is the balance.As a final thing, think about the little old lady who is the kindest, most wonderful person ever, who at the same time, refuses to suffer nonsense of any sort ever.

Also we're looking for newer builds and aren't interested in renovating because my lady is due soon.
