By closely held I mean that it's much like a trade, being a welder or painter or a musician.

Most contractors will know a painter or a sheet rock guy or a roofer they trust to get the job done right and for a reasonable rate.

We will be starting tile next week, and we can't get the painter in until the tile is in place.

You will have no shows from roofers, landscapers, painters, etc... excuses all over the place.

We're also gathering and networking with the resources we'll need (general contractors, plumbers, electricians, painters, etc.). 

I did some additional research and I couldn't find any real evidence one is better than the other, just painter opinion how smooth it goes one.

The painter is going to be busy for next 3 months or so working on my rehabs, so they give me very good price because I am able to keep them busy.For carpet, the retail price is $1.25/sq ft and I got it at $0.85/sq ft.The vanities retail for $125 and I got them at $90.
