Ask for their advice and maybe even something a little corny, like whether they’d be willing to write a letter of recommendation for your lender when the time comes.

I'm probably biased, but I prefer to have a lender who can assist in any of my markets. 

From there, I would start to run numbers on those deals in that area/streets, and then start to connect with local agents/PMs to get an even better feel for pricing on homes along with rents for them. 

Check with an architect first to be sure you can fit your vision into the existing lot, as it's zoned currently.

There was also a loan grant available from the state of NH for first time home buyers for 3% down payment assistance.

That makes a real difference.Initially we had one originator, one part-time processor, and a part-time admin assistant. 

No experience in Brooklyn but there are a lot of programs out there for rental assistance.

I would talk to your servicer to see if they can assist you. 

There are plenty of entry roles from cold calling, scrubbing data and find deals for investors, leasing assistant, work on construction sites, office admin, project coordinator, Title assistant, RE photographer, transaction coordinator.. on and on.
