I was looking into doing something similar and either using a CRM (lots of free ones out there or with good trials) or combining a Google Sheet with an add-on for mapping, so I can look at the list by neighborhood.I got the idea for the free CRM after Googling and finding a BP blog post that talks about the same exact thing (https://www.biggerpockets.com/renewsblog/2014/02/1...).

The direct approach (asking) demonstrates your ethics and as the variations are typically "fill-in-the-blanks", I would venture you would get the consent.

Those materials are outdated and come from someone who hasn't wholesaled in year, if ever.They all tell you to do the same stuff with a slight variation - letters, yellow letters, post cards, band it signs, etc.
