Pending on the water table and soil conditions in your area, this can be as simple as punching 8-12 large (18-24") diameter holes in the bottom of the pool with a jackhammer {to allow for drainage} and then backfilling the pool.

@Ryan Murphy, I don't see it as an advantage or disadvantage, nor would it factor into my decision from a development standpoint.If your're genuinely interested in the neighbor's lot, you might want to start planting seeds with them for that now... who's to say that they won't sell it out from underneath you should someone approach them about buying it between now and your someday?

So the difference is with tile when you turn you mop and shine it and then shampoo carpet upstairs rather than replace all the carpet down stairs as the wear and stains won't come out.You could also just keep the pad underneath and replace just the carpet itself or it if is just loose pay someone to re stretch it and fix bad spots.

@J Scott regarding the basement level, what type of soil do you have, what's the water table like, and what will it take to retain soil provide drainage, etc. it when you dig it out?

The reason being that the houses were older than I'm accustomed to and they use different building methodologies up there, so I wasn't able to assess things like the well, foundations on clay soil, rubber roofs, etc.FWIW, I was over budget by about $25K on the first Milwaukee rehab -- about $10K of that was stuff a really good inspector probably could have caught (structural/framing issues), but the inspector missed it and so did I.
