We're adding a half bath upstairs in addition to general rehab of plumbing, electrical, countertops, and landscaping.

Kitchens are in need of substantial repair but with work, could possibly be reworked so that the room functions, but is not really up to today's granite countertop standards - should I renovate the kitchens with new cabinets and appliances?

Check the local big box stores for closeouts, or sales on countertops.

Countertops?

Most of the houses in the area are three bedroom, this is four and has been updated recently, paint, carpet, appliances, countertops, etc. 

The wife and I recently painted our kitchen countertops.

Is it any different that adding up square footage of a laminate countertop for example ?

For those living in Bossier City and/or Shreveport (northwest Louisiana), who would you recommend for a competitive price and solid installation service when it comes to granite countertops (bathroom)?

I have not been out to the property she reported to me that it didn't need any updates other than cosmetic, things like granite counter tops.
