The real work is with changing the layout of the kitchen somewhat to including opening up a wall to view the living room and removing two "notches" where the wall comes into the kitchen for the sole purpose of making room for the basement stairs that, for whatever reason, turn to the left halfway down and another for an old stove pipe from the original wood stove in the basement.
