The US Government is the worlds greatest experts at 3 things; being lying cheating thieving politicians and making you love em for it, blowing things up, and kicking the can of our national debt and any form of accountability as long as humanly possible too the extent of 0% interest rate economy wide as long as it takes.

As one local tenants' group puts it, their are a lot more renters than landlords, and so the politicians and bureaucrats listen when they scream.

Rents will unfortunately have to climb and background checks must be more and more diligent.How can we best educate people to let them know the reverse, detrimental effects these rules have and will continue to have on tenants as they (politicians and apparently the popular base) continue to advance them?

@John Ed The reason there is not more “blood in the streets” is because nonpayment of rent hasn’t actually changed much from last year despite the overhype by the media ... and politicians (national and local).  

No politician wants to be seen as being "against" affordable housing.....especially in states like NY, CA, OR, WA.

If it isn't you'd need to get a variance or a rezoning, in which case buckle up for a long ride and start to figure out what butts to kiss and what politicians to grease.
