For example, the violent crime in Austin is really low. 

Not to mention the fact that marijuana use in teens, DUIs, violent crimes and armed robbery have all declined in states that have legalized pot in some form or another...... not that were discussing the social ramifications.I could continue to rattle off talking points but the TLDR is: depending on who you speak to the marijuana industry gets a bad wrap, in my humble opinion its nothing short of a windfall for states that have embraced it....

Found 5 heroin dealers, 2 sexual predators, 2 violent felons and some prostitutes in the units. 

The violent crime that occurred at your house is thankfully more of a rarity in KC than some areas - but I'm afraid a sign like that will be your welcome into the world of "crime of convenience". 

Would it be possible to go to the property and simply ask what's going on or has the relationship become hostile and potentially violent?

There are occasional violent crimes in the area though; not somewhere you would want to roam alone late at night.

(If it was a violent death or drug related they might need to do forensics).
